1. General Information
Our department established in 1982 as a part of Anadolu University has joined to Osmangazi University founded by a law in 1993. Our department offer normal andevening education programs with a number of over 600 students.
Our department consists of five divisions named as Analitical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Biochemistry. It has 20 academic staff, 3 research assistants, and 1 experts. Our academic staff have international scientific connections and completed many projects supported by NATO, TUBITAK, The Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Private companies and ESOGU. Many projects are also underway. Major fields of study are as follows:
(i) The synthesis and characterisation of new type water-soluble surface active block copolymers,
(ii) Experimental and theoretical studies on some heterocyclic compounds,
(iii) Biotechnological applications of fungal cultures (biosorptions and microbial biotransformations),
(iv) Investigation of inhibiting effects of some organic materials on the corrosion of metals,
(v) Synthesis and investigation the biological activities of some heterocyclic and heteroaromatic compounds having medical importance,
(vi) Determination of properties of alunite and clay minerals and researches on their applications.
(vii) Removal of organic and inorganic pollutants such as heavy metals, dye and antibiotics from aqueous environments by biosorption.
There are 6 classes, 3 laboratories and 1 computer room for undergraduate students. Our department provides good environment to the students to equip them with up-to date information under supervision of research assistants in the laboratories. There are also 16 research laboratories not only equipped with modern equipments but also having European standarts for postgraduate studies.
Our students are able to graduate after completing a total credit of 144 includingcompulsory lectures, laboratories, lectures chosen from 15 different group of elective courses. Traditional and modern methods are used concurrently to give knowledge and skills on basic chemistry in courses and laboratories to ensure that students have a broader perspective, free-thinking and are equipped with high ethical standart. Students whose GPA are sufficient enough have opportunities to apply “Double Major” and “Minor” programs. Upon completion students can obtain a second degree at certain departments at the University. In addition, our students have opportunities to continue their education for one or two terms via ERASMUS and MEVLANA programs at overseas or FARABI program at domestic Universities having agreements with ESOGU.
After graduation our students can work as academic and professional researchers in the “Ar-Ge” departments, practitioners in industrial enterprises or chemistry teachers in both governmental and private schools.
2. Name of the qualification
Upon successful completion of the program students are awarded a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry.
3. Level of qualification
Bachelor of science
4. Admission requirements
The general admission requirements are applied to Turkish and foreign students to join the program.
5. Recognition of prior learning
Recognising of prior learning, vertical, horizontal and inner university transitions in Turkish Higher Education Establishments are realised in the frame of corresponding legal instructions. At the beginning of each academic semester exams of exemption are organized for some computer and foreign language courses in recognition of certificate-based or experience-based learning outside of formal education institutions at Turkey. Students who take and pass those exams are exempt from the relevant courses in the curriculum.
6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The students are supposed to pass all the courses in the program and should not grade FF, DZ or YZ. In this program students must provide a minimum 240 ECTS credits and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2,00 out of 4,00.
7. Graduates Employment Opportunities
Graduates can get jobs in research and development laboratories of several public or private sector establishments in the fields of drug, textile, ceramics, cosmetics and automotive as well as researchers in their branches. Furthermore they can work in educational institutions as teachers of Chemistry. Our students are offered training opportunities in contemporary and modern conditions at laboratories.
8. Access to further study
Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree candidates may apply to graduate programs in their field or related fields provided that they have sufficient knowledge of foreign language and adequate score of ALES or equivalent examinations.
9. Examinations, Measurement and Evaluation
Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are defined in detail in “ Course Information Form ”.
10. Graduation Requirements
As described in the section of "Qualification Requirements and Regulations”.
11. Mode of Study
Full time
